About Us
WithMeWithYou / Conmigo-Contigo is a nonprofit organization that connects immigrants and asylum seekers with volunteer escorts—including veterans, clergy, and other allies—for immigration hearings and check-ins. Our goal is to offer solidarity, reduce fear, and help deter targeting through visible support and accompaniment.

Position Overview
We are seeking a volunteer Legal Advisor to provide general legal guidance and help ensure our organization operates with clarity, accountability, and protection for all involved. This role is ideal for a mission-driven legal professional passionate about immigrant rights and nonprofit advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and review privacy policies, terms of use, disclaimers, and consent forms for the website, intake forms, and outreach materials

  • Provide guidance on data privacy and confidentiality, especially concerning sensitive immigrant information

  • Review and help draft partnership agreements, volunteer waivers, and memoranda of understanding (MOUs)

  • Offer general legal advice on nonprofit governance, risk mitigation, and liability exposure

  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal nonprofit regulations, including IRS 501(c)(3) requirements

  • Advise on any advocacy-related limitations (e.g., lobbying restrictions) for public charities

  • Serve as a sounding board for legal questions that may arise as the organization grows and expands its programming

Qualifications

  • Licensed attorney in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (immigration or nonprofit experience is a plus, but not required)

  • Familiarity with U.S. privacy and nonprofit law (e.g., CAN-SPAM, GDPR/CCPA implications, charitable solicitation rules)

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach

  • Commitment to immigrant justice, equity, and dignity

Time Commitment
Estimated 3–5 hours per month, with flexibility based on your availability and organizational needs. You may also be asked to advise on time-sensitive questions (with advance notice and accommodations as needed).
